Happy New Year!! I can’t believe it’s January 2014 and I’m always excited to press the re-start button. I have so many New year’s resolutions but I’m the kind of person who likes to break rules…Anyone else? So if I have the grand idea of wanting to get rid of habits, like my escalating chocolate consumptions and tell myself “Give up chocolate, give up sugar, give up coffee., etc, that only increases the desire for the “forbidden fruit” after years and years of living out of the diet mentality that just doesn’t work for me!
I have seen countless Dr.’s, naturopaths, chiropractors, herbalists etc. for various health issues and they all tell you to cut out wheat, dairy, sugar, coffee, etc. and that only adds fuel to the fire every time I eat a “bad” food…you feel condemned. Wasn’t it blissful to be a kid and not have the nagging thoughts of wanting to be healthy, good, and always trying to lose a few lbs? I want to get back to that simplicity and be free of that chaos in everyone’s heads. I know I’m talking to many of you out there.
I think we all put way too much focus on food, what to eat, what not to eat, obsessing, judging ourselves and having a bad day if the scale is 2 lbs. up. Today I’m gonna be vegan, paleo, gluten free, yada yada yada. Enough is Enough!! This a a year of FREEDOM from all idols and a obsessive dieting. I don’t believe God wants us to live this way, and He has an amazing gift that he has given us…The Holy Spirit! I believe if we ask him to lead us in our thoughts, words, actions, and habits he will help us.
So take 1 meal today, wait for hunger and throw out all the rules that you have given yourself and get exactly what you are craving. Is it cheesecake, French fries, pizza or is it a green smoothie, kale salad, or oatmeal? I know when you take the labels off of food you will crave balance, and you will start to recognize what gives you energy. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you with what your body needs and to honor him and your body. So start this year off with making peace with your body, and know that God is right there to help you. We’re in this together.
